“In an all-out emergency / catastrophe, no one is coming to help you!”
Get to know your own home.
How can you best protect your family and home?
Now let’s look at things that are beyond your property boundaries. Let’s stay close, we need to look at the people that are right next door directly to your left, right, in front and back of your house. Who are your neighbors? Can you trust them or trade with them? What do they currently have that you don’t have and what can you offer them as trade? Once this is established, we will move out house by house property by property. I like breaking them down as such; My home is Alpha (Green Zone), the homes around me are Bravo (Blue Zone), Charlie (Yellow Zone), Delta (Orange Zone), and then Echo (Red Zone). (see illustration 1).

The closer they are, the easier it be to keep communication and relationship open. The truth is that as the zones get further away these zones will be less manageable and harder to communicate with. To me Communication is person to person, face to face. To me, Comms is a form of communication via a communication device like a radio (HAM Radio/Walkie Talkie/CB Radio).
Security:
How are you going to secure your area of operations (home: AKA Green Zone)? Your eye site is what you can best secure. Make sure you show your neighbors “NOW” what are your boundaries, fences and walls are the best way to do that, but don’t give anyone areas to hide behind. Remember some areas will be natural boundaries that you will not be able to see around or through, so plan for that.
No Utilities:
Plan on having “NO” cell phone, “NO” internet, “NO” lights, “NO” gas, “NO” water. Download all of the cool stuff you think will help you on to a hard drive and DVD so you can access later. If you don’t have solar panels and batteries, you are not taking it serious. How are you going to heat on cold days, cook, or use water for personal hygiene? Prepare an area to use as a burn pit, this burn pit will take care of your poop. Don’t use the precious water, that you will need for hydrating to flush away as if you had an endless source.
Food and Water:
What are you going to do about food? What are you going to eat? What are you going to do about drinking water? Utilize a part of your property to grow things that you can manage. Keep in mind that weather and water are very important to the things you plan to grow, so make sure you put some thought to this. Some fruit trees are very low maintence and a good source of vitamins that you will need. If one of your neighbors within the blue and yellow zones already have an orange tree, think of growing something else, so you can trade with them. Make sure you have a way to capture water or distil water, because this will play a major role in your survival. Protein will be important as well, so think about it, everyone will be out looking for the same meats as you. What can you hunt, or catch near you, or is your protein going to be home grown?
COMMS:
How are you going to communicate with people around you and further out? CB radios and walkie talkies are good, but HAM radios are better. Remember don’t count on your cell phone or land-line to be working, if it is it will not be for long.
Sustainability:
What is your plan for sustaining medical conditions, medical issues and medical emergencies? Growing your own medicine is important. What medication can you grow, that will help with everyday ailments, common injuries? It’s very important to know what you have on your property that can help with medical conditions and injuries. Never forget to workout, having a regular physical regiment helps keep blood sugar controlled, reduces muscle injuries, stress relief, and overall body maintenance. Not just the body, but exercising your mind.
We will go more in-depth on each of the five titles listed (Security, No Utilities, Food and Water, COMMS and Sustainability) these topics in a later post, the author Lobo Liber will be publishing a digital and paperback book titled; “No one is coming to help you!”
